If it's just the two of you I would resist the temptation to pursue Mid season Cock birds out in the open grain fields and even the large CRP ground.
Find smaller nasty, heavy cover in field corners, road edges, small creeks and very small strips.
I personally spend most of my time late season in the narly cattail sloughs in the run off areas of ponds, lakes and reservoirs. The far N.W. end of Wilson Lake is a good place to start.
