Looking for hunting buddy(ies)

Hi

I have been hunting pheasant and quail for only a couple years here in Kansas. I have a 3 year old German Shorthaired Pointer that can "hunt 'em up" well. I have been lurking this forum for a while to see if there is anyone that is looking for someone to hunt WIHA with but have not found a current post that fits that profile. I live in Topeka and would like to find another hunter or two that are in the same boat that would like to go out on the weekends somewhere within an hour or two of Topeka.

If you fit this bill, please let me know and we can talk about when and where this season.

Thanks! :)

Sounds like fun, however, you're going to have to go farther than 1-2 hours from topeka. I wouldnt hunt anything much east of Salina.

I agree with you that out west would be best but it is hard to make a day trip if you have to spend 6-8 hours in total driving time. I am thinking north might be best but maybe there are some quail closer by. Opening day I plan on going 3.5 hours west then north and spending a couple nights out there but the other weekends will have to be closer to home.

Two years ago, I went north near the Nebraska border and found lots of pheasants out there but not nearly as much as last year when I went West-North-West

marysville area isnt too bad. not sure about this year though. its not too far from topeka

I would save your gas on the Marysville trip. The winters up there the last couple of years have really done a number on the pheasants and quail. Look west young man past Manhattan toward Salina.

RoosterTim and RoosterBuck are you two related? ;) just kidding.
I am guessing the best place to go that is no more than two hours from Topeka would have to be north or northwest.

I am working on making a hat cam right now so I can video some hunts. I will post for you guys if I am sucessful :D

There are plenty of hunting lodges within a couple hours of Topeka. Otherwise, I think you'll be doing a lot of walking and not much shooting unless you go further west. We had about a four year stretch in late 80's and early 90's where we did really well on both pheasant and quail around Hiawatha, Seneca, etc. Then Mid America Game Bird Association started leasing all of the land we hunted and that was that.

I think I'll try to do a lot more goose hunting this year.
