Looking for a topper shell

I know some of you guys probably travel around NE KS quite a bit so I thought I would put this out there.

I've been keeping my eyes open for a bright red, fiberglass topper for my 07 Chevy Classic, extended cab P/U. 6.5' bed. I don't/can't pay an arm and a leg for it but would still like for it to be in fairly good shape. If anyone happens to see or know of one for sale for say under 500 dollars I'd appreciate the lead. I'd travel to get it within reason.

Duckn,

Where exactly are you at in NE KS? Try a junk yard in St. Joe to see if you can find one. I can't say that I've seen a bright red one, but I've seen undamaged toppers come off of totaled vehicles and the such.

One option is to find one that does not match your color, necessarily and then take it to like a Maaco and see what they will charge you to paint it. It will be a cheap paint job, but that's probably an alternative to get you into your price range.

I'm just North of Topeka. I found one last month but it was in Chilicothe Mo and I didn't want to travel quite that far. KC, St Joe, Manhattan no problem.

Thanks for the tip.

Dang -- if I had a trailer that it would fit on I'd meet you somewhere and you could show me your honey holes ;) as I am not too far from Chillicothe.

There's a guy in Independence, MO that has some for sale, though. It's like Bobby's Auction Block or something. I called him and he's got a couple that look like they will meet your needs for your price range and size -- he's even got a red one that needs some cosmetic work for well below your price range. Number is 816-417-2894.

I think your best bet is to search craigslist.

You can always try LKQ salvage yard in Topeka - they may have something. Theres also A1 truck in Augusta/Wichita, www.car-part.com (used parts search tool)

Smith Salvage in Garden City
theres a place up in Marysville I think

and www.searchtempest.com -- allows you to search craigslist but multiple cities at once.

Western KS Classifieds https://www.nex-tech.com/

Id guess Nex-tech classifieds or craigslist will probably lead you to what you are looking for.

Or you can simply upgrade your dog box and leave the topper off. Putting the topper on automatically gives away your age as someone who qualifies to belong to AARP :):D Ruins the look of the truck ;) But one mans opinion and you know what they say about those....ha

This (with the storage below I think) is what I'm going to end up getting for my pickup in the next year or two. I dont have 3 dogs but can use one of the empty kennels for dry weather storage. Dont have $5-10k to drop on a Deerskin all alum box.

I've had shells on my truck even when I was younger. I like them simply for the fact that I can keep my gear in the back dry and safe. A big plus for a waterfowler who carries, coats, waders, decoys etc. dog boxes just take up to much room I have found . Sometimes I take one dog sometimes 2. It's nice to be able to use the vari kennels and easily take them out or out them in. Also during spring and fall hunt tests I can run fans for the labs to keep them cooler. I can also have my cooler of food and drinks in the back. It's just nice to be able to keep things dry and secure. I've had this truck for a couple years now and realize how nice a topper was.

My truck is about function and not style. It's easily identifiable because its a pure dog/hunting truck. Rarely washed from sept - jan 31 and will have a nice selection of ammo under the back seat and if a person gets hungry if you look under the seats you might find a partially eaten sandwich that may still be good, just have to brush off the dog hair and bird feathers. The tailgate will have blood with feathers stuck in it from cleaning birds. It's a truck and used as one.

Never thought about junk yards I'll check into them.

Im an auto insurance adjuster - will be a cheap way to go if you find one -- but a couple things to look for - make sure the fiberglass hasnt "spidered" or been fractured near the front from slapping the cab if it comes off a truck that was pretty messed up. Id bargain to heck with a salvage yard if you find one there - it's not worth squat to them - no market for them and hard for em to ship.
