Livingston, MT

Bought a place in Livingston, MT last fall. New to the area and want to learn where to find the ring necks other than at a club. Generally hunt around Conrad, MT which is very good but long drive to get there. A few years ago I floated the lower Galliton into the Missouri at Three Forks and hunted the islands in between fishing. Turned out productive. I have a drift boat now and a 1yr old Irish Setter I want to put on some birds. Any advice for the area within a 2 hour drive or so? Anyone looking for a bird hunting buddy? Season right around the corner!

Thanks, Josh

I'll look for you in October

Josh, I will be coming through in October with my springers and will try to get in touch at that time. My priamry destination will be the northeast corner of the state.

If I were you I would go to Big Timber and head north. Lewistown is 2.5 hours from you and has great pheasant hunting. Get a block management and open fields packet and knock on doors and you should have some fun. I hunted antelope near Judith Gap about 7 years ago and shot some huns and sharptails. Wasn't really targeting birds, but I will always take time to grab a shotgun and walk up on birds. Good luck.

2 point gave good advice , however anywhere in eastern or Northern Montana along the various rivers , close to year round water and a riparian corridor can hold birds....
go see the Lewistown country but follow rivers , and wma with water thru the state too .

good luck welcome to Montana!
