Lets Talk Switch Grass

The Switch Grass your talking about sounds good, and a nice piece of the puzzle.

Grasslands, including Switchgrass are worthless during heavy prolonged snow periods.
I have as nice a patch of Switch as you will see anywhere. Snowbound and still is since mid Dec. And has been last 4 out of 5 years.
If You get more snow then Central MN Your in trouble!

If you get that much snow, you get more than we do. In Montana where I hunted, they "normally" don't get that much snow but they have coulees full of brush that works as cover in such instances. We do not get that much snow in this part of PA. The switchgrass here works great on our normal snow amounts. If we get a couple feet at once, we could have some problems with the switch being our primary winter cover. We have some brushy areas that would work in a pinch for a short period of time.

Some parts of MT pheasant range gets a LOT of snow. Check out for instance the Plentywood area of Montana's annual snowfall. This Winter is brutal so was 2 years ago. Still there is birds, tough suckers!:10sign:

Roosterslamers You are correct about the coulees and the brushy Winter cover. For sure the shelter groves around the building sites and the waste/spilled grain at the bins.

You guys are doing good work over there.:) Best of luck to You!:10sign:
