Lemmon SD

I posted this question on another thread but seen it hasn't been visited in months. Is Lemmon SD worth the drive from Minneapolis MN? I typically hunt Chamberlain which is to busy for me and Hoven where we pay to hunt. Although not that much. It also lacks quality public properties.

the short answer is no. you are driving past alot of places as good or better on the way to lemmon. if your only goal is to get away from people than thats probably a good spot.

Short answer is yes, I always like to see new country and driving past other good hunting to get to good hunting and new views is always the way I go--but then thats just me--sometimes you find a real jewel that way. I need to get over hunting/fishing the memories sometimes. You know the old "well it was really great last time so it MUST be really great this time" but maybe not:D

Wait until the brood numbers come out, then make your descision. They usually come out in late August if I'm not mistakin'.

man i like that answer. Sometimes memories are best left alone. I have had great days with the dog scratching up a couple birds, and days it was easy not being nearly as fun. I would trade a few birds for a big crowd of knuckleheads any day.

upon further thought, I am sticking with my original answer.:D The question was "is it worth it" not "will it be a memorable hunt". like I said, you will be driving past some great places to hunt to get to Lemmon. However, if you are looking to see some fantastic scenery, and few people you are on the right track. If you decide to check it out let us know how it went. ultimately you are the only one who can decide if it's "worth it."

Thanks guys. I'm just trying to gather some information for some possible SD trips this year. I'd like to get out past Aberdeen a ways where the competition for public spots isn't fierce. I guess I'm really looking for someone that has been there. Been looking into Mobridge also.

Stayed in Lemmon, but hiunted ND. We were in Eastern ND 3 yrs ago and it was so wet it felt like we were fishing. headed west until it dried out and ended up in Lemmon. We found an inexpensive motel ($40. night). We hunted ND PLOTS land and did ok. Found Sharpies and Pheasants. We did get on a piece of private land after having a nice conversation wiht alocal farmer.
Terrain wise= Wide open plains with grass cover. Somewhat hilly. We have considered heading to the Grasslands near Lemmon, SD at some point but its a heck of a drive from Indiana. Like you, we like trying different places . Saw very few other hunters, 1st Week NOV.
