Layers

Been carrying one of these in my vest for years. Weighs about nothing, takes up almost no room in a vest pocket yet counters quick drops in temperature or rise in winds very effectively. It's like long johns for your head. Can be used as a neck gaiter, full hood, face covered/not covered. Very versatile.

On sale now too, $7! If I didn't already have 3-4 of them bought on previous sales, I'd get another. ;)

Merino wool base layer is an excellent choice as well. I have tested it hunting, ice fishing and snowmobiling. This week sledding in sub zero temps have been nothing short of impressive. Check out Minus33.
