Laybourn's Weekend

For Christmas, my wife got us a weekend at Laybourn's Hunt Club in Cope, Colorado. We went last weekend - had a good time with the boys and hunting birds. The drought really put a damper on my plans to get our youngest pup on wild birds. The trip to Laybourn's was a good alternative and a lot of fun for us and the dogs.

The big blue guy, Dakota, on point. I had to hustle to get to him, but he was rock solid on point until I shot the rooster.

The youngster retrieving a phez. He did pretty good - several finds, nice retrieve and he learned a lot.

Mrs. CO_Weimar with our old lady, Julia (11 years old). Julia had a good time chasing jackrabbits in the snow on Saturday and had to recuperate in the truck on Sunday.

It was a good weekend. Laybourn's Hunt Club is a nice place if you like homey and quiet. Stan and Lea Ann have turned the business over to their kids, and they are doing a great job of keeping up the family business. We stayed in the guest house - shower, fridge, stove, coffee pot, TV, and a fence around the guest house so that you can let the dogs out in the middle of the night without having to get dressed. It's a nice place if what I described suits you. The guest house with fridge and stove is great if you want to cook for yourself, otherwise it is about 30+ miles to Yuma.

CoWeim, thanks for the pic's!! Glad you had a good time with the Weims!! Nice wife for sure!! Always enjoy seeing your dogs!! Thanks again and have a great New Year!!!

Did you see a Pudelpointer there?

Uncle Buck - I don't recall seeing a Pudelpointer there. I only saw one black lab running by the guest house. Saw some other guests and dogs at one point, but they were so far away that I couldn't make out anything other than blaze orange and that they had a dog with them.

Lots of fun - such a change after going birdless all year.

I suppose my wife is a keeper - or better yet, I hope she keeps me around.

Happy New Year! Let's forget about 2012 and hope for better things in the coming years.

What fun, thanks for sharing. It's good to see the old dame (dog) out and about. Reminds me of my Irish Setter the last couple of years, picking and choicing the fields to let him hunt and then rest. I retired him when I bought some birds at Vahalla and he pointed one and tried to retrieve it but couldn't get his back legs going. Had to carry him back to the truck. So now he lays around the house running and hunting in his dreams. Enjoy them when you can, they don't live long enough.

I remember that dog Uncle Buck ! I had that stinky thing in my dog trailer :D

I've not talked to Stan in a while. We just pass on e-mails. I'll have to ask him.......

They had a pic of him on he web site for a while. The girl was teasing him with the wing. He was a 2009 pup.
Will put pups on the ground Feb. 1. All sold and then some.
