For Christmas, my wife got us a weekend at Laybourn's Hunt Club in Cope, Colorado. We went last weekend - had a good time with the boys and hunting birds. The drought really put a damper on my plans to get our youngest pup on wild birds. The trip to Laybourn's was a good alternative and a lot of fun for us and the dogs.
The big blue guy, Dakota, on point. I had to hustle to get to him, but he was rock solid on point until I shot the rooster.
The youngster retrieving a phez. He did pretty good - several finds, nice retrieve and he learned a lot.
Supervising the dispute over "my birds".
Mrs. CO_Weimar with our old lady, Julia (11 years old). Julia had a good time chasing jackrabbits in the snow on Saturday and had to recuperate in the truck on Sunday.
It was a good weekend. Laybourn's Hunt Club is a nice place if you like homey and quiet. Stan and Lea Ann have turned the business over to their kids, and they are doing a great job of keeping up the family business. We stayed in the guest house - shower, fridge, stove, coffee pot, TV, and a fence around the guest house so that you can let the dogs out in the middle of the night without having to get dressed. It's a nice place if what I described suits you. The guest house with fridge and stove is great if you want to cook for yourself, otherwise it is about 30+ miles to Yuma.
