Late season public lands, N. Kansas

I went out for two swings today, the wind is brutal! Ran two older dogs first, found one covey out feeding in the wheat. The poked eye dog pointed, the other backed nicely.
Moved an hour further east and ran the next pair. The youngest found a few singles buried in the grass, the other dog was running wide and missed all the action. The wide dog then found a covey way on down the line. The pup came in and backed nicely. Next find the pup had a pheasant, it was so windy he could hardly get up.
Right by the truck the pup darn near caught an owl, there were many feathers blowing away. Fun, but just too windy so I’m quitting for the day. Little bit of snow coming down right now.

Sounds like a pretty good day. Still making out a plan for next weekend - hope the weather cooperates.

How were the roads getting around the WIHAs?

If I wasn’t doing this I’d be working, so yes it was a great day! I usually only run one dog at a time, but with that wind I just wanted to get everyone out before I quit so I ran pairs. Early in the week there were some unpassable roads, today I came across one - you can tell right away and get back out. I did hit some bad stretches that were in a ways, very touch and go.
