For those of you interested spent 2 days out in morgan county this weekend
Friday & Sunday covered at ton of ground on walk-in properties managed to flush up a half dozen owls. Hunted the heavy cover saw plenty off tracks mostly old ones until sunday when it snowed. managed to kick up one rooster
at end of day in some wheat stubble. Other hunters out there had similar luck
one group saw about 20 birds on the private land of coarse. Fields we hunted
had 4" snow on ground some areas had 12" with snow drifts anywhere from 1ft to 5 to 6 ft. The only positive from this weekend was we met Kieth Parker
son of Robert Parker ( Major Donater of WIA in that area ) He pointed us in the right direction. Going out agian this weekend any suggestions would be appriciated.

Thanks,

Head further East. I think the extra drive time is well worth it. I have relatives that live between Brush and Sterling, and I don't even bother hunting there land. The bird numbers just aren't there.

My advise, is to try and hunt land other than WIA. They use to be good up until a couple years ago, but now I avoid them unless I happen to see birds on them. This year I've spent a grand total on 10 minutes on a WIA for pheasants. Now quail is a whole different story....

I take the time during the off season and make contacts needed with farmers and now only hunt private and what a difference in my hunting. I have yet to not bag birds this year! Showing up with the wife & kids helps too LOL!!!

Thanks Guys will try further east this time around and plan on making a few trips out there this summer for some pr work. I'll let you know how we did this weekend.Happy hunting to all.

Ringmaster...I was in Morgan County on Monday (maybe the day after you if you went this last Sunday?) and hunted in the WIA north of Fort Morgan which was dead. I did take one off of WIA south of Brush that looks like it was on old Pheasants Forever site (based on an old worn sign on the fence). That area had great habitat and I saw about 10 birds in there. That's great you were able to meet the son of Mr. Parker. I would love to know what he had to say about the area. The next day on Tuesday I went to Yuma and hunted some private and WIA. I was dissapointed as I saw a handful of birds and did not take any. I know that Yuma area is supposed to be a hotspot, but I has just as much luck in Morgan County that day. Of course that's the nature of pheasant hunting.

Morgan county still has some good places.. I even have some private land places that are good in Adams County. I plan to put some work in and clean out some of the coyotes! I sure wish everyone would do the same.

Without private land access, you are wasting your time by not driving to the Colorado/Nebraska line. You have to work hard for birds out there. Hunt Wheat stubble in the morning until 10am or so. Then hunt the thickest grass you can find until 2pm. Hunt wheat stuble the rest of the day.
