Last Week of the Season

I always feel a little down when it comes to this time of the year, when the pheasant season is coming to an end. But I have to reflect back on what a great season it has been. I thought I had a good season in 2009, yet I harvested 50% more birds this year. And I got to witness a young dog start to put it all together in her second season. I can't wait for the next few years to see her really mature. So it is with a bit of sadness that I have to bid another pheasant season good-bye. Still I have to thank the "Man Upstairs" for giving me the health at my age to still be able to get out and enjoy this wonderful sport.

I'll probably get out 2-3 more times this year but it looks like it will have to be early in the week as the forecast for the end of the week and next weekend doesn't look very good. More snow, wind and bitterly cold temps.

Hoping everyone had a great 2010 and wishing you all a better 2011.

good for you, always fun watching a dog learn how to handle pheasants, enjoy the last week and be careful out there!

i have one 4 day trip left for Kansas, trying to put it around a snow event.

New to this forum... Heading out Tuesday to Frederick South Dakota for the last week of Pheasant hunting. Does anyone know how much snow is out there?

We've got about 10-12 inches on the level. Makes for some tough walking. Fortunately we haven't had much wind to date so the drifting isn't too bad. The snow is still fluffy as we haven't had any warm weather to put a crust on it. The weather looks good through Wednesday but then it's going to change. Snow is forecast Thursday thru Saturday with temps in the single digits and wind. If we get a lot of wind with all this fluffy snow we will have a heck of a blizzard. Best get out here early in the week.

I know what you mean. The last day for my area was Thanksgiving. Due to lack of funds I haven't been able to make any long trips this year. Dreaming of the 2011 season and reading about your hunt gets me through hunting withdrawl.

Could not have put the words togeather better George. It seems like it just got going and now it's over in the north land. You will just have to come over and shoot some birds with her during the spring and summer.
You SDers in the est might want to look at Souix Falls area. I seen they had next to nothing compaired to further nth.
