Last Two Days of Season

What are your plans for the remains of the season? I'll be afield in NW the 30th and 31st. Haven't seen many birds this year so expectations are minimal. Will put the six-month-old pup afield, his first time, and see what happens. As I type this sitting at my desk, I am imagining the stress-free way I always feel when I get out in the open country of big horizons that the high plains offers. That's a smile for now and more next week.

Well, Wisconsin's season has long-since finished, but I'd grin too, if I had a 6 month old pup on its first ventures out in front of a conscientious gunner. One of the neatest things about working a dog is watching the learning take place as new things become familiar things and the connections snap into place.

You have some joy in store for you.

I think we're going to hit it hard the last couple few days actually. Sounds like Monday will be the coolest of the last bit of the season, so why not get out before it's time to put the pheasant hunting gear away?

We hit it pretty hard both days last weekend. We saw some birds, but it was nothing special.

As for this weekend, 3 of us are headed out on Sunday. We're headed to some private ground that hopefully hasn't seen much pressure. My expectations are still pretty low, though.

Headed out Sunday till Wed. Most all our pheasants are coming out of the wheat stubble at all times of the day. 2 guys and 2 dogs and most are holding tight and I am not not talking
weedy wheat stubble. Just been following the dogs into the wind the more the wind blows the better it is.

we went NW last weekend. Laid eyes on a dzn to 2 dzn birds a day. They were awfully wiley, getting up early almost every time.
It'll be a real treat to go with a young dog and not have too much expectation. Have fun and good luck!

I have a month of quail left here at home, I'll be out hitting my "saved up" private spots so I can enjoy running my young female before it all comes to an end.

Good luck. I may try to sneak out and give this recently repaired knee a try.

Headed out for awhile in the morning see if can’t scratch down a rooster or 2...or 4 tomorrow. Be last day I’ll get to hunt. It’s been a pretty good season for me compared to the last handful of years.
