I took the dogs to a preserve today to do a quail hunt which would be the last hunt for a while. I had 10 quail spread out in different fields and it was a great time. The dogs had a lot of points (some because I missed some of the birds) over the 3 hours we hunted. There was a quail hunt at the preserve yesterday and they must have left some birds in the field. I'm not sure how many birds the dogs found be we came home with 11 quail and one rooster. The quail flew great and were like little rockets with the breeze blowing. We found birds in grass fields, sorghum and wood lots. I ended up going through 30 shells for the day. Some of those quail had me all twisted up when shooting and I wasn't in the best shooting position. Other times the quail flew behind some trees and I couldn't connect. Other times I just missed. It was a great day and I enjoyed having the grounds to myself and hunting at my own pace. Tonight I'll be grilling some quail and venison on the grill!
