Last Day Pheasant 2012

What a great day...what a great season! We were going to hunt some swampland that doesn't get bothered much during the year because it is to inaccessible, but after it gets frozen it's much easier. Instead we decided to hunt a three hundred acre abandoned farm. To the best of our knowledge there have never been any birds released on this farm, but it just has that PHEASANT look.
Well we were only into the first field a few minutes when Dugan got birdie! I've been watching him for seven years now and know what scent he was on.Still we knew this was a long shot, expecting pheasants in an area that hadn't been stocked, on the last day, in Bradford County!! Well Dugan ran two different birds into a drainage ditch and I had to hup "stop" him! Had I let him run wild he would have flushed those birds, although out of gun range. Almost not believing our fortunes we started searching the ground and there it was, pheasant droppings all over the place! We gave each other high fives and felt on top of the world. I honestly don't know if any else has hunted this farm for pheasant, there wasn't a sole in sight! What a way to end the season and we didn't fire a shot!

What a GREAT season it was and I can't wait for next year!

We're pretty excited, this particular piece of property is very close to our grouse/deer camp. We are going to talk to the owner and find out what gives and see if he wants any help with habitat work etc.. The whole area is loaded with old farms that are not being worked anymore. It shows a lot of potential. A lot of people don't realize that Bradford County was once rated Class A pheasant range!
