JP Sauer & Sohn, Suhl 16ga SxS

I finally got to shoot it yesterday. A couple things stood out. Man does it kick like a mule! I shot Remington 1oz 8shot.

I need to bring a glove for my left hand as the splinter forearm does not protect fingers from hot barrels very well.

It patterned much, much tighter than I was hoping. Patterned improved Modified and Full. I thought one of the barrels was supposed to be Cylinder due to the markings. :(

You can buy a hand guard from Jeff's outfiirers that slides over the barrels so you won't feel the heat when the barrels get hot.
That Sauer must not fit you too well, we were shooting my buddy's yesterday and it's identical to yours- I didn't feel to much recoil, maybe hand loading is in order.
I don't know how you did with yours but the Sauer we were shooting was choked full for the right and the left was " HOLY CRAP THAT'S A TIGHT CHOKE!!"
Sure smashed birds however.:)

Congrats on your Sauer SxS. Recommend you look at another forum for double guns-it has everything you need to know about these awesome firearms. http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

Due to their design and lighter weight-recoil can really knock out teeth fillings especially with what is considered modern shells with higher pressure/loads. I own a 12 gauge English double made in the 1950s. I have used both RST shells http://www.rstshells.com/ and Polywad shells http://www.polywad.com/ I have not used on Pheasant but have on ruffed grouse in Maine and clay birds. Just have not been out on Pheasant since my purchase. I chose the lighter loads and did not see any degradation in knockdown power/performance. My SxS has modified and full chokes and the spreader shells that Polywad manufactures allows my gun to open up to the equivalent of Improved. Very pleased. Great article on these shells at Aspen Outfitting Company site http://www.sidebysideshotgun.com/articles/balance_loads_article.html.

In my own experience to date and after multiple attempts- Call or email Polywad and the owner will tell you what you need/get back with you if not there. Call RST or email them and they have never answered the phone, returned a call after leaving message or returned an email reply.

Hope this helps.
