It's over (for now)

Today is the last day of the early pheasant and other small game season and I made one more go at it with all three dogs today. It was warm enough in the morning for Nittany to want to go along to the gamelands. I saw a few trappers and a couple of hunters out but I had the area to myself for the most part. The dogs worked hard and had an unproductive point in a wooded area at our first stop. We covered fields, woods, wetlands and hedgerows without finding a single bird. I moved to another area with similar results. I thought I would try to stay ahead of the rain that was coming and head towards home with thoughts of running at the club that is close to home. I ended up seeing a rooster that was in the corn field that belongs to the neighbor. The dogs kept working hard and they finally found some birds in a swampy area. There were two hens and about 20 quail hanging out together. I was glad to get the dogs on some birds one more time. I checked out some other areas with the dogs but we didn't find anything but the dogs did have another unproductive point or two. Here are some pics:

It was a good early season with a lot of bird contacts for the dogs. They were on liberated quail and pheasant plus a couple of grouse and woodcock. I hope to get them out in the late season but take more pictures instead of shooting birds.

Did anybody else get out on the last day?

Sounds like you've had a very production early season, but like Yogi said it ain't over till it's over!

I guess that predator theory on the other web doesn't apply in your area. :D

Are you heading out for the Buck Season Monday?

Looks like it's OVER for Mr. Franklin!

I'll be out on Monday close to home. I don't get too excited over the deer season but it is nice to be out early in the morning to see everything wake up.

I'm not too worried about Franklin yet. In 2008 #7 PSU beat a ranked MSU team 48-16 to clinch the Rose Bowl. The next year MSU went 6-7 and then had an 11 win season. Things take time and even more time will be needed at PSU.

Good luck on Monday!
