Just got back from north central Kansas hunting with my 10 year old for his first pheasant hunting trip. Before we left a friend let us borrow a youth 20 gauge single shot shotgun. My son and I have worked hard on safety training with his BB gun over the past few years and with some additional training at the farmers with the 20 gauge he was ready to carry it cracked open with a huge grin on his face. The overall bird count in the area we hunted was quite low and seems to be a pattern for the past 3 years and coupled with taking our 14 month Brittney out for his first experience with pheasant it was pretty tough getting birds to show themselves at reasonable ranges. All that is "water under the bridge" with this great moment in our lives. Although he did not put the first load of lead in this one he did put the finishing touch on it and he is one prowd little feller! He now has a severe case of pheasantitus and I look forward to many years of hunting with him and soon his younger twin brothers. Unfortunatly it is every bit of 16 hours of driving for us to get to our little piece of heaven in Kansas but we are already looking forward to planning our trip next year. You-all who live out in KS have a very special place and my thanks to all who give us out-of-towners such a warm welcome!

I hope that I post this picture correctly

My favorite kind of hunting story:thumbsup: Thanks for posting the pic too! Doesn't look like he planned to let go of that bird anytime soon. Did he keep it in the cab of the truck w/ him on the way home?:D

Very nice! Young dogs and young kids learning together. That's great.

All decked out in orange too! Fantastic!

I would bet he is still smiling thinking about the great time he had out with his dad and pup. Congrads, now he has the unquinchable fire to go out and harvest some birds. All he needs now is a new gun and a new pup. :coolpics::)

OMG that's funny he's holdin it like a baby. He doesn't care if it was one bird, we adults often don't think it was a successful hunt with just one bird but that's just cuz we are spoiled brats. He looks like he's in heaven and it might as well be a 100 LB bird. :O)

That's a great pic. My youngest son who is 16 now has just really gotten into pheasant hunting in the last couple of seasons and I have had some of my favorite hunts ever watching him get hooked.

AWESOME, Radar is right we are spoiled. Picture just made my day trying to think back to the young mans age. Me and dad on my first rooster hunt. Dont remember much about what happened at work today but can tell details of my hunt 30 years ago. Thanks for the picture you have made my shi::y day all better.

Thanks for post the picture; my son is now 27 but it is still fun to see him have success in the field. Hunting Grant County wed, wish me luck. I hope the deer stay off the highway between Wellington and there.
