indian res hunting

I am coming to SD to hunt grouse in Sept. and am wanting to know if anyone
has experience with the hunting pressure on Ft. Pierre grasslands compared
to the lower Brule indian res. in the latter part of Sept.. From what I can
find out either should be as good hunting as the other but the res cost to
hunt. Both said thier counts were the same or up from last year, I guess the
hard winter doesn't affect the grouse the same as pheasants.
Thanks in advance

Most of the reservations here get much lighter hunting pressure for birds than public or WIA's. Make sure you get a map and only hunt tribal lands approved for hunting by non-tribal members. There are areas of privately-owned tribal land requiring permission for hunting.

i thought SD tribe land required paying a daily guide fee to a tribal member as well? anyone know the answer?

Depends on the reservation. I am not sure about birds but for Prarie Dogs some do and some don't.

the Lower Brule is about 120 dollars a day or 400 for an unlimited yearly permit. I hunted phesants one day there last year for the experience and
no guide was required then. I have heard the crow creek res is cheaper
but I understand it is east of the river and have never found anything on
the net or anywhere else about thier hunting.

believe res hunting is a mystery for 2 reasons.

1. SD game and fish does not want to lose revenue to res hunting

2. Res do not promote and have very little info available

Plus confusing to understand when and where res lic vs SD Game and Fish. got to believe this is the way someone wants it.
