If Praire Storm

I shot some Blackcloud #3's today for the first time and they were hammering the ducks. If the Praire Storm performs like the Blackcloud I be switching to them. I'll try the PS on pheasants this weekend. #6 in 1st barrel and #4 in 2nd barrel.
 
Praire Storm is the real deal!!! Two shots and two roosters. This is scientific proof that these are the greatest shotgun shells ever made or will be ever made. I can honestly say this and please vote for me on Nov. 2. Thanks for your support, PA.

Do you have a brother that use to live in Illinois and now resides in DC? :D
 
Good Ammo......But

It's good but shoots really really tight. If hit you hit birds at close range and center the pattern, there won't be much left even with an open choke. It should be a great load for later in the season when longer shots are needed. Here's what my pattern test showed.

"I shot a number of patterns with 12 ga. No. 6 2 3/4 inch Prairie Storm last week. I used Imp. Cyl. in a SBE shot at 30 yards. The patterns looked like I used a full choke, very tight. The spread was 16 inches with lots of center density.
It would really hammer anything you hit with it. It's probably due to their flitecontrol wad. It has a solid cup, no slits."

So in other words if you just shot a full choke with less expensive loads you would accomplish the same pattern and killing results as you get with Prairie Storm.

From what I've been reading PS patterns way to tight for my liking and hunting style. I shoot IC choke with regular 1 1/4 oz. loads or Federal PF loads and consistantly kill pheasants at 30-40 yards.
 
Nope it is not for me. If it kills them dead what fun will my dogs have chasing a wounded bird across the section.
 
Just back from SoDak. I like the new load for certain situations.

We hunted the third week over FDs, Labs and FBECS. Most shots were at longer ranges. I used a BUL 12 with a IC tube installed and stuffed PS shells in the magazine for 2nd and 3rd shots, if needed. And at times with a big green combine nearby, they were.:D

I can see that they would make even an open choked gun shoot too tight over most shots over pointing dogs. That flight control wad makes a huge difference in patterns. I've used it exclusively in my turkey loads ever since it was first introduced by Federal. I really like their ammo, both centerfire and shotshell.

You are right. A full choke with your Federal PF load would do the same. The advantage is that you can get full choke patterns from an IC when you want them by using this ammo.
