Hunting next week!

My brothers, Dad, and I will be in Day county next week and was wondering how the bird numbers were out there? I see that there is a lot of snow out there and will probably be hunting a lot of cattails. Any suggestions on where to hunt when it is cold out?

I just got back from hunting the Aberdeen area last week in the same snowy, cold, windy conditions you will be in. My advice would be pound the cattails hard.....get right in there with the dogs.....you will find birds......if you miss or they flush to far away watch were they go and go get them.....they will usually be there. Don't discount small strips of cattails or brushy areas along the banks of ponds. If there is a brushy area within a cattail marsh there will usually be birds there. Best cattail marshes by far are those next to crop stubble in my experience. WPA, WIA, CREP and GPA's were all good if they had cattails. Have fun! :)
