Hi all,
Great forum -- I've been lurking since start of season and reading everyones experiences. Good to see/hear KS still maintaining what it's been known for.
Personally I grew in SE KS where my parents farmed and quail hunting 20 yrs ago was a lot different than today. Let's hope we see those numbers come back!
I've been to Hugoton this year on opening weekend -- like everyone we experienced warm, windy weather and none of the crops were harvested. Pretty much hunting CRP and pastures. Had a large group with great dogs so we did get to see some action but hoping our next trip (smaller group) fares better.
We are headed out to Russell (closer to KC and report has been favorable for pheasant and quail) this weekend and planning to hunt the walk in sections as it looks to be plentiful. Not to get someone's honey hole but if you know of private land that good ethical hunters could try in that area -- it would be much appreciated.
