Hunter Education--Abilene

If any of you are looking for a hunt ed course for your youngin', the group that puts the Abilene course on is top notch! The volunteers that put it on really go out of their way to get it right. The highlights for my son was the trapping demonstration and the opportunity provided on the 2nd day to shoot black powder rifles. They even let my little guy join in and he wasn't even taking the course. I saw parents who'd obviously not spent much time shooting, and weren't there to take the class, getting quality instruction from these guys on the range.

The trapping demonstration and information was enough to inspire my eldest. He went home and dug out a trap that was given to him by his grandfather and is now making plans to become a trapper:10sign: It'll be neat having my boy take me for an outdoor adventure.

Oh, almost forgot...the Dickinson county PF group donated a shotgun to be raffled off to one lucky participant from the 2 Abilene classes. Dickinson county PF makes a lot of noise for their supporters and seems to be doing a lot of great things for our tradition. I had to choose a chapter to support and after a couple years of research that one seemed most appropriate.

KB, wish I were closer to help him get that trap chain stretched properly:) If there is a way to become a better hunter, it is to perfect your trapping skills! I've trapped since I was about 12 and it is truly a continuous string of thrills! Every new species has it's own habits and idiosyncrasies. Splashing up a waterway in the dark with only a flashlight for illuminating the unknown prospects is a real charge! Get-er-done!
