Hunt Recommendation

Just found this site, looks great. Posted this in the wrong forum earlier. Sorry.

I am looking at making a trip to KS the day after Christmas for a couple days of hunting. Born and raised in KS and now live in TX. Haven't been bird hunting in about 3 years in KS.

Usually went up to Glen Elder, Cawker City area. Looking at now setting up base in Dodge City and hunting WIHA south and north of there.

Anyone have any ideas or other spots to try? Or should I setup North Central?

Thanks.

Sorry buddy... can't help a Jayhawk...

Just kidding. There are lots of birds in both areas. If you're more familiar with the Glen Elder/Beloit area, I'd suggest you go there. Since many of the same fields are registered walk-in's year-after-year, it would cut down on your scouting time, and increase your killing time.

We just spent a couple of days hunting out of Dodge City. We hunted several WIHA tracts and also drove and looked at several more but just did not see the birds, the key thing being we did not see the birds. There were lots of bird sign and I believe there are birds in the area but it was warm and they were in the thin cover which made them difficult to pin down. Talked with a Wildlife Officer in the area and he said basically the same thing - birds are there, just difficult to hunt.

i don't think it matters where you go in Kansas right now, the situation will be the same everywhere....snow and cold is the answer.

Very true statement right there. I spent 3 days in an area loaded w/ birds. Didn't do well at all. The week before I was in an area w/ very few birds comparitively, but w/ better scenting conditions and a stiff N wind, we harvested 5 roosters.
