How to regrow hair on GSP

My gsp had a bunch of bumps growing down both ribs. Happened right after a food switch so vet said switch back and wait. Weeks later, no change. Tried a special shampoo-nothing. Blood tests finally showed hypothyroidism. Between those meds and some prednisone, bumps are down, but all her fur fell out on the bumps. Looks terrible. Any product known to regrow hair?

Not a vet
My Doberman was stung by something likely a bee or wasp couple years ago he broke out in hives on his one cheek and neck vet put him on 14 days steroids can’t remember name now bumps went away but hair was gone on the scaly looking spots I just dabbed castor oil on them not heavy just little goes long ways it soaks In Deep softens the skin so long as it’s in area they can’t lick now wouldn’t know he had a problem But we know he’s allergic to insect bites
Water down vinegar rinse helps with PH

Vaseline will also soften the skin up. It does miracles on those big calluses they get on the elbows. I had a hypothyroid one that did the same thing. The hair came back some but was still thin. The CRP. fields would rub it out pretty quick. She looked like hell from mid-season until a few weeks after.

So I assume your dog is on a daily synthetic hormone like levothyroxine. It can take up to 4 months for all the hair to come back once a dog is on a daily medicine for hypothyroidism but in some cases it never comes back. Keep giving the medicine and in time that hair will regrow. It took about 6 weeks after my dog was diagnosed for his hair to fill back in. Once they are diagnosed with low thyroid, they will be on that medicine for life.

My GSP lost all the hair at the tops of her ears during season last year. Come summer, it still wasn't back. We asked about it at the yearly checkup and the vet said she doubted it would ever come back. Now I just have a bald-eared dog. If she loses a little more up top, she'll look like me.

I have no clue why it wouldn't come back, but it doesn't.

I would have her thyroid tested. Generally the ears is mange though. It won't come back if not treated. Many vets always want to blame it on food allergies but there is most always an underlying issue.
