Hotels in Pratt - or Nearby

Anyone have any recommendations? I'm heading that way tomorrow afternoon. I hate reading reviews on the internet - it seems everyone is a "negative nancy" in some fashion or another. I'm just looking for a clean, wallet-friendly place that will allow my two shorthairs to stay with me.

Edit: Have any of the hotels reopened in Greensburg? I wouldn't mind staying there either, and "contributing" to the rebuilding economy.

My favorite place in Pratt for years has been Evergreen Inn. Stayed there earlier this week. Their prices have gone up a little but still better than most. Decent restaurant on site.

I've heard good things about the Evergreen Inn, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one hearing them.

If I end up hunting through New Year's Eve... I might have to get a room in town though, so I can chase some local tail around, LOL! :D :p

Thanks for the advice fellas.

Lynn will take good care of you, they are very hunter friendly.......in fact they only have 16 rooms and they are booked for opening weekend (Fri., Sat.,Sun.) until someone in the 2 groups (10 in one group, 6 in the other)
dies........great place, still waiting on that opening!

Well I ended up staying at the Evergreen Monday and Tuesday night. Very clean and quaint place - I was satisfied. My only complaint was the diner next door had no biscuits ready when I wanted some B&G for breakfast

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll likely stay there again next time I'm down that way, if I can get a room

glad it worked out for you, i don't recommend too many places, but i have been staying there for years...did you happen to find the steakhouse downtown?...a little picey, but they serve a steak big enough a show dog couldn't jump over! :10sign:

Nope, but I'll keep that in mind for next time. Did happen to accidentally pull in the drive to the Holiday Inn (I think) right next to Wal*Mart though and seen the craziest thing. Eight shorthairs all out on a lead in front of a truck in the grass, looking like sled dogs. I was hoping we wouldn't hunt anything they had they next day, LOL!

damn! that's some dog power right there!

I was thinking about staying at the Evergreen as well but I noticed there's not a whole lot of WIHA's around that area like there is around Dodg city or Jetmore. Did you guys have to drive pretty far to get to some decent public areas?

Greensburg......not bad, 30 miles maybe.

Greensburg is almost exactly 30 miles from Pratt. Many nice quarter sections to hunt in the area. However... every out-of-towner and weekend warrior wants to go that way to hunt (especially Hodgeman County - anybody with a hunting atlas targets that county, because it offers the most walk-in).

Any alternate advice then?

you can pm me if you want to give away the exact directions to your secret honey hole. LOL!

Oh don't get me wrong, there's still birds there. I seen plenty in the Greensburg area. A lot of people have difficulty shooting ya know. :D

I think part of the reason I seen so many people out was the fact that it was the week between Christmas and New Year's. A lot of people take vacation that week. You probably won't see half the people I did out and about.

Edit: There's also a few nice Wildlife Management Areas around Pratt.

Do you think it would be worth it to drive a little further to the dodge city area?

this time of year it won't make any difference where you go...all WIHA have been hit equally for the most part, you need to hope/plan your trip around a snow event to be really successful or knock on some doors and not rely on the walk ins...
