Hello, NOS from SW WI

Thought I stop and introduce myself.

I guess I qualify as New Old Stock, lol perhaps this is my mid life crisis, but I had been a hunter to hardcore deer hunter (occasionally Turkey and a bear or too) for close to 40 + years. I got tired and impatient waiting on big game to show up, and it seemed to get worse as tracts of land got smaller. Other than a turkey hunt, never did anything with shotguns, all my game had been taken with rifle, bow, muzzleloader or hand gun.

The desire to walk through the outdoors & hunt has brought me back to hunting and reinvigorated that spark. In addition it allowed me a reason to purchase another gun lol.

So if you see some dogless idiot aimlessly meandering through some grass on some public land in SW WI, and you ask yourself what the #$@% is that guy doing……it’s probably me….and I don’t know either, but at least I’m not in the couch

Welcome from another cheesehead! Good luck to you and have a great time outdoors this season - only about a month away now! Not sure how the hunting is in SW WI but you can let me know shortly ;)

Without a dog, I’d recommend zig zagging (“quartering” they call it) across your hunting area and stopping every so often for maybe 5-10 seconds. This’ll allow you to 1) cover more ground vs walking in a straight line and 2) make the birds wary when you stop and have them be more apt to flush.

Thank you for the welcome and the tips. I may not be a spring chicken anymore, but truly an infant in the upland knowledge realm, so I need to be a sponge. I’ll definitely be open to any suggestions!

And Go Pack Go!

Welcome and get one of those four legged critters! They will be your partner for life.
