Hey guys. I have been viewing this forum for some time now, so I figured now is a good time as any to sign up. I am from Texas so not much good pheasant hunting in my neck of the woods. I have a 6 month old American Brittany, "Gunner." I am looking forward for his first season and my first trip back to Kansas in a few years. Planning on doing some hunting around Hays, Kansas the week of Thanksgiving. Any tips would be appreciated fellas.

Hay welcome. I hope to be down in that area in december. Never hunted Kansas yet. you will have to let me know how it goes.

Yea I will for sure. I have only hunted the Manhattan area when my Aunt was stationed at Ft. Riley. We had some luck, but I have been told Hays has a lot better pheasant numbers and more WIHA. (may have been told wrong though!)

Hays is a good place to stay and hunt. you will have to work for your birds, but you can hunt from dawn to dusk, lots of walk in and don't be afraid to knock on a couple doors too. i too live in Texas, it's a bit of a drive, but Kansas is a good bet, been going there for many years.

yea I have been through that area a few times. Kansas is a little drive, but well worth it. I have a guy I work with that is from the panhandle and says there is some decent pheasant hunting up there, but that would be about the same amount of drive as it is to Kansas for us.

Your friend is right I can be in Kansas in the same time it takes me to get to Amarillo and there are a lot more birds and the people in Kansas are more friendly to hunters.

Welcome to UPH, hope we see you here often.........Bob
