Hello from lovely North Dakota!

Hello all! I'm a relatively new hunter from Williston ND. I've always wanted to take up pheasant hunting, but having spent 25 years of my life in California, opportunities were few and far between. 2 years ago, I found myself taking up a permanent position here in the Bakken oil field. The happy, and unforseen side effect was that my opportunity to hunt had finally come! Last season I was able to go out and bag my first rooster on opening day! I was moderately successful for the rest of the season, often hunting solo, and only once with a dog.

I'm looking to find a few things from this forum. I'm looking to find knowledge, as I did not have the benifit of a father/grandfather/uncle/friend as a mentor. What I know, I've taught myself. But I know there are MANY more things to learn.

I'm also looking for friends to hunt with. Hunting solo has its benifits, but I know I can be more successful I'd I hunt with friends (particularly if those friends have dogs 😆). I'd love to meet some of y'all.

Well, anyway, that's me in a nutshell. Glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum. I think your living in ND will assure that you get plenty of offers from would-be hunting companions. I've done some hunting up there and my impression is that SW ND is very birdy. Hey, get yourself a dog that will find them for you. Hunting with your own - well, there's nothing like it. Make him or her your best pal. Looking forward to your posts.

Very much intend to get my own dog. Eventually. My current living circumstances don't permit it. Once I move my wife and kids out here this spring and we get some more suitable property, a new dog will be a big priority. Until then, I'd like to hunt with folks who have dogs and learn how to train and hunt with them.

Welcome Bakken I have worked that oil field long before you have in the 70'S. good luck on your new dog,

Welcome to UPH from The Central Valley! If I ever get out that way I'll bring some dogs.
