Has anyone burned cattails?

The neighbors prescribed burn got into our 5 acre cattail patch and got it all. Has anyone ever burned cattails? Just wondering how fast they come back?
 
A buddy burns his crp acres every 3 years and in the center is a large cattail slough which always has some water in it. The cattails will burn to the ground/waterline and grow back like normal after every burn.
 
If you do no other management to that area the cattails will come back. I've burnt a lot of cattails. Ironically its because we are trying to reduce them with the hope of better nesting habitat. After the burn we grazed that area fairly hard to get that transition to happen. I know of others who disked up the roots to kill them off and used chemical.
