Had a scare

I went grouse hunting last Sunday with Ellie, my 7 year old ECS. The hunt went fine. Two days later, I noticed a lump on her neck. The next day it was bigger. I got her into the vets office today. Turns out it is a big abscess. He drained it and prescribed antibiotics. I can't believe how fast it progressed. I wish I could remember her getting hurt. She must have gotten stuck by a thorn or something. Any tips on dealing with this in the future?

Thanks, Lee

Thanks, that's what I figured. She's my first dog so this is all new experiences for me. At first I was thinking some sort of cancer. Thanks again!

Well, her abscess flared up again. Vet drained it again today
The incision is about 1/8" and on her neck. I was wondering if I could bandage it while I hunted her. I was thinking a duct tape wrap over the bandage. Would it be better to wait and not push it? Just looking for some more experienced dog handlers' opinions.View attachment 7511
