Grouse/Partridge in Maine

I've got family in Maine I should visit. Grouse/partridge season starts Oct. 1. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has hunted grouse in Maine.

When we lived in the East, we hunted up there several years as well as in Vermont. What would you like to know??

BTW, Brits are the BEST. We had Britts for many years and some were simply dynamite grouse dogs.:10sign:

while i have never hunted maine, would have liked too. i have hunted n. h. and vt. a great deal, grew up in vt. there were grouse every where and most all of them in from of my gun were pretty safe unless i caught them sitting on a stonewall. i will be back there for about 4 days of hunting near the end of the first week of oct. likely my last trip back there, have a few old places in mind but maybe they have grown up so much that the birds have left. anyway, whatever, i will walk my dogs one last time back there and my gun will surely appreciate the excercise. really looking forward too it. grouse and woodcock will be in my sights.

I have been living out here for two years now. Hunting is very good the farther north that you go. In southern Maine people have shot at every bird off the side of the road, so just the sound of a truck will send the birds on their way. This fall is my last year here before heading back to Michigan, so I'm planning on spending a week north of Millinocket. There are plenty of places to hunt by just driving down logging roads.

Just head north and you'll run into birds.
