Great trip

Spent the week of the 11th in your great state, came from PA. 23hr trip. Hunted all public land on our own. Eight guys and 5 dogs, well 4.025 dogs as one was 9 month old and just starting out. Had an awesome time, got into a few pheasant the first day nothing spectacular, got one rooster and actually jumped a snow goose out of a field which we dispatched. later found its mate dead in a pot hole nearby. Saw a flock of about 10.000 geese and got the blood flowing. The next day we put up 11 roosters and 8 to 10 hens, got a few. That eve found ourselves in the middle of a snowstorm of geese. Scared them sufficiently but got appx 10. Totaly unbelievable sight. the next morning we cleaned up on them. then they statred to get the best of for the rest of the week, only canada action after that. Next day was our best phesant day put up 18 roosters and 13 hens in 3-4 hrs got 8. The rest of the week we had moderate success, but had learned a lot, like the absolute need for blockers, and the need to retrieve the birds asap, or risk not finding them. No luck getting access to hunt geese on private land, maybe next time. Did not see as many pheasants riding around as we did two years ago, but in the fields we did 10 times better. Still probably below average for SD standards, but eight persons left with the biggest smiles on their faces. Planed to go back in two years, scrambeling to see if we can do it next year instead. WELL WORTH THE TRIP. The show dog even kicked up a few pheasant and retrieved some ducks and geese. That in itself was worth it as she is my dog.

Good for You guys, Good times for sure.

Wow you had trouble getting permission to hunt geese. I have asked lots of farmers for permission to duck hunt in Ne SD and after they say yes there next words are make sure you kill every goose you see. But maybe there families hunt. Glad to hear you got into some birds.
