Gov Shutdown....No CRP Rent Checks

Hmmmm....anybody else not seeing their Annual CRP rent checks?

My understanding is they would be part of current fiscal year and would be paid out by 9/30. If that is true and they cannot pay because of shutdown then aren't they in default of their contract? Are they going to pay out a late fee just like I have to do with every other bill I owe.

Imagine all the farmers in the state of SD let alone the nation that are missing their CRP rent checks.

I imagine they are looking for just this opportunity to convert their CRP to crop production. moneys got to come from somewhere to pay the bills right?

Wonder how many other bills the government has that aren't getting paid. I would think this could begin to have a economic impact.

Found this supporting article indicting that this is happening now http://brownfieldagnews.com/2013/10/01/shutdown-affect-farmers/

Is the payment sent to you in the mail or electronically? Is it supposed to be sent by them or received by you by 9-30?

It has only been one day of shutdown. I would assume anything before yesterday was business as normal.

My understanding is just that. I have busted ass to get all the acres I have in CRP and rent is due for the year. Meaning this fiscal year. My understanding is that anything after 9/30 is NEXT fiscal year meaning post shutdown. New contracts always start on 10/1.

I noticed last year some payments hit in Sept and some into Oct. Why I do not know. I suppose just processing lag.

So when the banker wants his mortgage payment in few weeks and it ain't there due to shutdown, I am sure he will be very understanding and say "Oh, no problem, I won't charge you any late fee or interest penalty".

This is were production crops and free markets start looking like better options.

Crp

Wasn't CRP originally established as a volunteer soil protection program to benefit those fields enrolled, with good nesting as a by product.

UGUIDE, all your idled acres are now voluntary. Remember, always read the fine print with those gubmnt contracts.

If the land is now voluntary, can he pull it from public use? If so, will it be properly marked so we don't tresspass?

I get a separate payment on each plot of CRP ( I have 9 different plots) and have received payment of one so far this year--waiting

UGUIDE, your a good sport. We're just jealous because we weren't smart enough to buy land. I do think you are going need to get with program though. Rent a D10, start it all on fire, and then have the Hefty Bros. help grid tile it right thru the ashes. Plant Monsanto dry land corn next spring, and max out the Federal Crop Ins. Then you can take all that moldy money up to Wings of Thunder and shoot colored chickens with the rest of us.

That does sound optimal.
