Got some good work in

The dogs had a good 45 minute run this evening. Some hen pheasants were released in the area a few hours before I got to run the dogs and they managed to get some good work in. Nittany and Blitz found the first hen pretty quickly before it flushed out of the switchgrass. No chance for a picture on this one. After this they found a nice covey of liberated quail and again no pictures. That will teach me to leave the good camera at home. The dogs did find some more hens and I was able to get some pictures with my phone but they don't always turn out the best.

The food plot is a mix of sunflower, corn and sorghum. The goldfinch have been hitting it hard and it is nothing to see 30 birds flying out of the field.

Here is a different view with Nittany backing after he got to the area:

I even managed to get a picture of the hen:

Even though the weather is cooler the dogs still got hot after working the fields. I was happy with the work they got and started to head back to the truck when they got their last point of the evening:

I was pretty sure it was some of the quail from before so I pulled the dogs off without flushing the birds. I didn't want to break them up again since it was getting late in the evening. And the dogs were pretty hot at this time.

It was a very nice evening and the best time of the year is getting closer.
