Getting stuck!

Snow did not look that deep. Had a winch, but we were 3' short with every strap we had to reach the telephone pole.

Lucky for us this farmer saw use from 1/2 mile away and cut a road to us. Otherwsie it would have been a long day.

So much for trying. The snow at the top was too deep. could not stay on the crown and luckly the edge was high.

Finally got back to where we could back track. Still have mud under the truck in places that I can't get to. Had to take all the skid plates off just to clean under the engine, tranmisson and transfer case.

Is that Graham Co., Kansas, by any chance?

Those are great pictures indeed! Reminds me of some of my past excursions. It looks like maybe a good set of all terrain tires would be in order!

Awe,,, Yes memories!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the great pic's!!:coolpics::10sign:

Kansas Brit has the area pretty well pegged down. The mud was last year just before Xmas holiday, the snow was a couple years ago just past Xmas holiday. The snow had a deep hard pack under about 4" of new fluff. The truck just sat on top and lost all wheel contact.

it's 105 here today in FTW and these pics just sent a chill down my spine, thanks, made my day!....and yes i have been in all those places myself, had a white F-150 last season and after a mud trip last January, it never did look the same...

Those mud road pics did send a chill down my spine. Found myself in a situation very similar to that last year on the second day of the season in Rush Co. In a truck that looked just like yours. Still don't know how I made it out. We would have been stuck a long time. Road didn't seem to care that the truck was 4X4. Almost makes me sick to my stomach to think about it. Very dicey situation. Dang those roads get slick when they're wet.

That place looks very familiar, thinking the camera is facing west, behind the camera the road turns south, south of the camera historically was in WIHA but last year wasn't, top of the hill in front of the truck to the south was in WIHA still last year? That description there goes with what kansasbrit said as well.

Now that just looks like a regular day out when you mix mud, snow and a chevy.:D I believe I heard a ford drove right through there 10 minutes later headed to church.

i have gotten stuck but i havent gotten stuck with my GMC yet.. however i tend to drive my GMC abit more cautious bc i precious my truck.. if i had my brothers F150 truck.. that truck is way beat up and we took that every where for hunting.. good truck..

i used cooper discovery tires.. they work awesome. i only got stuck in a 12 inch snow drift bc i got high centered... other than that, they're good tires.

Just a thought. We all like having fun on those muddy gravel roads but remember farmers have to drive on them the rest of the year. One of the reasons that SD farmers said they did not want a longer season was the roads getting torn up.

We had a great hunting spot when I was yonger but did not get to hunt it again because we were being jackasses and tearing up the road near the hunting spot. Lesson learned.

Wisdom

My father-in-law is older and wiser and he often reminds me, "walk for 10 minutes or push for 2 hours".

Chessy, that is the spot. Very good field, just alot smaller now days. The draw always holds some birds.

I hear you about tearing up the roads, all was dry except this section. Usually will head south a county where the roads are gravel when everything else is wet.

I was in the same area at the very same time last season. Rush county was a mess for the next 2 or 3 weeks following. I threw Ness in b/c I saw hills, but there are a few hills in those portions of the other 2 counties as well.

We've got a ton of birds out of that section. When the east side was still WIHA we'd always try to hunt that field opening mornings, sometimes we did, sometimes others (maybe you?) had beat us there. The first pheasant my wife ever killed was out of that field. Have gotten into some quail along the east side and in the trees as well. Saw my first badger in real life there on the west side in that little 'bowl' last January as well.
