My superintendent closed our school district for the remainder of the week. We had 22% of our student body out with the flu or flu like symptons. No confirmed cases of H1N1. I have never closed a school in 27 years but this was wierd. In Texas we get ADA (average daily attendance) money...it's about $90 per kid per day...so when you lose around 200 kiddos a day, you lose money; therefore, the closure. We can apply for a waiver due to the illness and not be penalized by the state as long as we make the days up. Unfortunately, the principals have to work 1/2 days. Point is: GET A FLU SHOT...regular that is...make your own mind up about the H1N1 vaccine, but I'll pass on that one.
