Generic gun fit question.

While this may be blasphemy to many, I’m kind of looking for something that fits off the rack.

My question is is does the same manufacture/ Model have the same fit from gauge to gauge?

I travel for work and believe I have a fairly typical body but am looking for a 20 O/U and when I get to a store, it’s fairly rare I’ve seen more than one 20 O/U in the 1000-2500. Price range. I do know the Franchi L fits pretty well in a 20, a Win 101 ( in a 12 seems to fit nicely) but a Browning Cynergy 20 was a complete miss. I could see virtually the entire rib after mounting.

I more than likely would have to order something in, but hate to order it and not take it. Honestly haven’t shouldered a Citori yet in a 20 and hope the fit is different from the Cynergy.

Maybe I’m not doing it right, lol.

I am in the same boat. I own a bunch of 12 gauges and want a 20 gauge. Kind of got it down to the A5 lightning or a Rizinni Dakota. The Rizinni is made for Cabelas. I asked them if they could get one in to look at. They told me I would have to buy it, then if I didn’t like it they would void the transaction. Hmm seems fishy. I won’t buy a gun sight unseen so I doubt I will get one very soon. Good luck to you.

The cabelas in Mitchell sd usually has a pretty decent collection of o/u. They had the Dakota last I checked. They will ship store to store for like 30 bucks or something. The Dakota has a painted or man made stock. The ones I saw looked a little fake I thought. I,m a lefty and I no longer care to compromise. I ordered a rizzini 20 br110 light lux. Never held one. I did give them my measurements. It took almost a year to get. It came in with the nicest wood I’ve seen on a field gun. Grade 4 the dealer estimated. Almost hate to use it but I bought it for a field gun so use it I did. There are some fine gun shops around with lots of nice stuff you can handle but you almost have to make it a destination trip. Field sports in traverse city Michigan comes to mind. They have a nice selection of fine guns. Might have to set up a line of credit before you go. Nothing cheap up there.

Yeah, while I’m walking in dozens of different stores, unfortunately I believe I may be restricted to purchasing from Cabela’s. I’ve have been amassing Holiday inn points, which I can transfer them to Cabela’s gift cards. I hated to try to have a bunch sent to them just to see what fits, but if I have to purchase the gun and void the transaction, that sounds miserable.

Basically yes, the fit will be similar, but the feel will be much different obviously because of weight and bulk. If you like the Franchi stock, look at the specs. The drop at the comb and heel and length of pull. I'm a medium sized guy, so the old standard which I think was 14 1/8 fit me perfect. A lot of guns are now coming out with longer length of pull. I don't know why. Both of my F.A.I.R. Rizzini's had to have the stocks shortened. Also bought a CZ Drake that has a longer length of pull. A buddy bought a Benelli 828. It's about 14 3/4. Real nice but I told him I'd have that stock wacked off. He looked at me like I was crazy. Said he would learn how to shoot it. Ok, but I don't care if it cost a million, I want the old 14 1/8. I don't pay that much attention to the drop, cast and stuff, but I know what you mean about seeing a lot of barrels. That gun's going to shoot high. P.S. I like the looks of the Franchi's.

I appreciate the insight, I’ve tried to check out LOP on most guns, however I’m a little concerned, based on my experience trusting clothing manufacturers while everyone claims their 35” waist is the same, they sure don’t seem that way to me lol. With cast & drop added in the LOP may feel different.

It seems I can always go in and find 12 o/u and the 20’s just seem to be more closer to the lower end. If I found a 12 I liked and fit, I’d just like to feel comfortable enough that blind ordering a 20 would work…….not sure that will happen

from my experience you should be able to do what you are wanting to do with Beretta’s. I’ve bought quite a few guns based on my known LOP and drop at comb and heel preference and been happy with the results. Good luck in your search.

Most sellers on GunsInternational, and maybe the other sites as well, offer a 3 day inspection on guns. Easy to check on that. Save some time and fuel.

I think a 20 will always feel different than a 12. Some of the older 20s were made on large frames but not anymore.

Most mass production guns will not have any cast, some “sporting” guns might have a straight comb. That may be why you saw so much rib on the one.

Have fun looking.
