My son has a soon to be 10 year old fixed female yellow lab. She looks like a six year old in the prime of her life and is in my top three pheasant dogs I've hunted behind. My son is ready to replace her and I've asked him to let me try and put her in a hunting home where she fits before he lets her go to just anyone. Pros, one of the best pheasant dogs I've seen and Im not easy to please. Absolute sweetheart who would love anyone who gave her any attention just like any lab. Cons, an absolute food who..re like many labs. Will break down with heat like any older dog but be an absolute beast in the cattails in cooler weather. She may have four years left or maybe one.... If I had room for her Id keep her myself but would be a great fit for a once or twice a week hunter or a aging hunter who only walks a couple miles a day.
She has hunted 70 plus days a season for most of her life and is more experienced than many refuge dogs. She is not house trained but Im sure this could be accomplished in short order if desired.
