Field Basics Recalled

OK, self, you're going pheasant hunting Sat.(!) for the first time this season. Remember these basics:

1. Don't slam the doors on the rig, and don't shout, "What a great day to hunt! Look out birds, HERE I COME!!"

2. Hunt into the wind or across the wind (from the leeward end) on the first pass through a field.

3. Hunt the best part of the field first. It isn't like a meal where the dessert comes last, so if you hunt that weedy draw last nothing may be there when you finally get there.

4. Carry extra dog water if it's sunny and mild or warm.

5. Don't hurry.

6. Use e-collar vibration and hand signals in place of whistling.

7. When you've almost reached your destination, start lifting at least one finger as each motorist approaches.

#7 If you don't you get labeled some kinda snob or worse--a damm NR, if you are busy make sure your passanger does it for you. If you meet a fully loaded grain truck and the driver does't wave back--look for the slight head nod as he may not want to take his hands off the steering wheel.:)
