English Pointer Colors

Im looking at getting my first english pointer puppy. The breeder Im considering has two males left. An orange and white and a liver and white. The liver and white is 90% liver and the rest white. Ive heard stories that this coloration is from poor genes or a mix. Is there any truth to this?

And does anyone have any thoughts on introducing a new puppy to a 4 yo female mixed breed dog. Am I on the right track of picking a male as to not have to females in the same household? Thanks in advance for any tips.

I haven't heard of any validity behind the color of the dog correlating with it's ability, but I could be wrong. As for the introduction with the other dog, I'd say it all depends on the demeanor of the 4yr old, as the puppy will likely not be able to cause any harm and will just want to play anyway. I also think it would be wise to keep same gender dogs in the house together, which is why I got a female GSP to go along with the other two female dogs the wife and I own. Some may disagree with me, but our three females get along just fine.

I don't know about the color being an indicator of ability, but I don't think it is likely,

But white dogs are easier to see in the field than any other color.

If your questing the type of dogs this guy breeds don’t buy from him. If you want PM me and I can send you a link to a Great EP breeder.
I would not worry about having two dogs Pointers are easy going.
