Have any of you done any research on EIC in labador retrievers??? I have a Lab that we are afraid he might have a slight case of it, and would appreciate any information you can give us on this..

Thank you

I would get your dog tested, go to your vet have them draw blood, then send it in to the place posted above, You will know in a couple weeks, Most are testing there dogs anymore before breeding, so a effected dog doesnt happen anymore, but there are still those with there head in the sand.........

There is no slight case
It takes a mutated gene in both the male and female to produce a couple effected pups in a litter,
So if you had a litter of 8, 2 would be effected while the other 6 would be carriers.
Alot has been talked about with what triggers a episode in a effected, in some effected it doesnt take a whole lot of excitement to trigger a episode, while some effected may never have a episode, which i believe is more the norm, otherwise if all effected were having episodes it would be almost a epidemic, there a alot of effected out there if you figure the amoount of breedings that take place every year and a % of them carrier to carrier, X 36% carrier rate X the amount of pups in a litter,

But know with a test there should be no reason to have a effected pup anymore......

what makes you think your dog may have a slight case?

I'm interested to hear his symptoms. is it possible he is hypo glycemic?

Thank you for your responce, I will look into hypo glycemic, will be going to the vet next week, the more I read about eic, I don't think he has it.. he seems to get it when we hunt him hard and when the weather is warm, so not sure if it is heat related..by warm I mean in the 60's - he is a very hard running lab.. two years ago he had a serious problem I had vet bills for over $500 to get him back on his feet, thank you for your help

Overheating is similar to EIC, The only way to know for sure is by sending DNA in to them, it is worth it IMO.
