Got back yesterday from the first Eastern Oregon bird trip of the year and I have to give Oregon’s Upland survey folks….Wow, lots of birds, just like they said.
I had a ball, with two exceptions. Had a friend bring a 13 week old pup (poodle pointer) ( spelled incorrectly. His stated approach was to go off by himself and work with the puppy….he did not. A 13 week puppy is just not ready mentally for one hour let along 3 days.
And, my Son In Law has a house dog (cocker spaniel) and asked to bring it along. I said yes as long as he brought an E-collar for his dog. He did not and his dog of course chased birds and rabbits and anything else that could be chased. Additionally it thought that bird retrieval was a game of keep away or tug a war.
I sincerely hope that they didn’t do any long term damage to their dogs, or me.
Now as far as birds, we killed Chukar, Huns, Quail and Pheasants.
