e-collar recommendations

I have always had tri tronics and have been very happy with them. The first one lasted me 13 years. I have a pro 100 now and highly recommend it.

I have 2 a Sportdog and a Tri-Tronics. I like them both very much, no trouble from either. I have had the Sportdog the longest and they have the best customer service of the collars.......Bob

Beeper collar or basic trainer?

I have the older Dogtra 2000 T&B series, which is their older beeper collar. If you can still find one of those they are bullet proof and quality all the way. I have not personally used the newer 2500 series, but did hear of some issues early on when they were first introduced. Still there are those that love them and have not had any problems. I think of the people who have had both the 2000 and 2500 say they prefer the beeper on the older model.

If I were to replace the Dogtra I have now I would have to take a hard look at the DT Systems model 2430 beeper/trainer. http://www.dtsystems.com/products/spt2400.html

I originally wasn't thinking a beeper collar but after missing an opprotunity at a pointed rooster today, I'm reconsidering.

Currently I'm looking at the Tri-tronics G3 sport but now thinking about the beeper combo.

Does the beeper scare off late season skidish roosters?

Having Shorthairs myself, I wouldn't dream of not having a collar without a beeper for heavy cover. Even if you don't hunt heavy cover all the time, it's there if you need it.

I've never really had an issue with it spooking birds, but I usually just run "Point only" mode. In other words the beeper will only start to sound off if the dog is on point, otherwise it is silent. I also have a quick locate function that allows me to hear the tone upon using the locate button. If I'm in heavy cover I use this rather than the continuous 10 second interval beep.
