Dove in October South of Denver

I live north of Denver, and for the past several years I've gone to the NE to hunt Dove in Sep. I would like to give the south a shot and stretch my season out. There's only about 3 SWA within my driving range (almost 3 hours). Karval Reservoir, Hugo, and Ramash SWA. I know people hate giving up hunting spots. But with my very long drive I just want to make see if it's worth it. I was going to start with Karval Reservoir, I believe I've read some posts on it in the past. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post info in the thread. And thank you in advance
 
I was thinking the same thing and looked up on the website about those units. Might want to read about them as I take it there is a reservation system even for dove hunting. Also being as there are the three next to the Springs, w/o a system places would probably be over run.

Lost a great place up by Greeley last year so I am back to state land myself, going to hit three places over the first and second that I haven't seen in maybe 8 years.
 
I am totally interested in this as well, this year I'm planning on spending more time than usual hunting dove...and looking forward to it!
 
Pueblo res, And there are some good swa's down by Rocky Ford on the river. I bet a guy could hit the Commanche grasslands and do well while getting a good scout in for some scalies!!! Just a thought. I have always done well in Oct. near Greeley when I go sight in my rifle. They are bunched up and fly 30 yds and land back down. Multi tasking!!!!:D I was in the Pawnee one time in a snow storm and the Doves were thick as thieves!

Not sure how you did at those spots...I live in Colorado Springs and I have hunted all of those SWAs...Ramah (that is how it spelled), the lake is dry and no water, so no dove. Hugo, it is like combat dove hunting opening day and Karval, well the last time I went, we saw zero doves...

I hunted Ramah opening day mainly because I did not want to drive to Pueblo and Ramah is only 35 minutes away from me. Shot at one bird and missed LOL first time I have been there its not very big. There where a decent amount of people there but not many doves. I saw maybe 30 in 3 and a half hours.
 
thanks for all the advice. I did hunt NE Colorado for the opening day and did quite well. Many dove to be had there still. But as the cold moves in I'm going to try some of the southern spots.
 
doves were not everywhere

i have found a few pockets of the little guys. shot a limit yesterday and another today, today it took 1 1/4's hrs. to get er' done. shot a little over 50%. pretty good for an ol' fart
