Dog transportation

Hi All,
I have made the change from a chevy blazer to a pickup truck. When I transport the dog I will have him in is kennel in the bed under the topper. My question is do you strap down the kennel to the bed or will it be fine along the side or near the back? Thanks for all your help and time.

Andy it depends on the terrain but its going to slide around. Put a strap on it or get one of those expanding poles the fit snugly from side to side and will keep the kennel in the back.

You will find it is chore to get your dog out of the crate. When all the way in the back by the cab. I drilled holes in the side rail. I then installed large eye bolts. Then I ran straps from the vents on the Kennel/Crate to the eye bolts. It was nice ans nug and did not slide around. It stayed close to the tail gate and I had storage next to the crate and in the cab.........Bob

Need to be aware of exhaust fumes under the topper also, and allow some flo through ventilation, it's a real risk especially when stationay and idling. I know of some unfortunate tragedies over the years.

Allot of people I know put a platform in the bed to the height of the wheel wells, then have storage under or drawers. Then put the crates in sideways. You need a side topper door or put one in. You can then drop the gate, open the topper side door and let them out easy. I have never heard of the exaust thing. I would think with good pipes vented properly it is fine. My guess this might be more remotely possible on old rusty exaust or beds. People die hear every year too, from poor piping in the fish house heaters. I have a topper on the photo below, just finished this platform in this pic, but the topper is and always has been on. I do have crank out windows and a 12v fan on the box as well. But I would definatly strap the box in securley. If you don't it will slide around. Especialy with a plastic or no bed liner. A rubber mat keeps things from sliding as much.

you guys ara worried about exhoust fumes all the time proven fact from several mechanics that with todays fuel injected vehicles you do not get enough carbon monoxide to even get sick also proven that you cannot kill yourself by a vehicle exhoust anymore lady tried last month didn't even have so much as a headache
