Mike,

I give my shorthair childrens asprin after each hunt and it sure seems to help. I also give him this stuff called synovicre (spelling?), it's a powder that I sprinkle over his food during hunting season and it makes a huge difference. My dog broke his hip when he was younger and used to get stiff and sore before my vet started me on the stuff a few years back. It's pretty expensive ($60) which last a month or so, but it's well worth it.

Me too. per the GPS I walked about 12 miles saturday and no telling how far my dogs run. All I know is they are lying in bed resting while I am working.

Keeping up on the conditioning on the off season makes a world of difference when the season comes. It will be like another day at the office.

I give my gsp's vitamin C and gatorade after hunting each night during multi day hunts. It really speeds up recovery time.

I do the same thing that the others suggested as well, BUT, I also feed my dog Team Realtree's Power Bar's. It helps keeps up his energy level throughout the weekend and it seems to help with his recovery. The power bars are a BIG plus if it's warmer outside.

Supplement

Kansas GSP is referring to Synovi G3, but it has since been recalled. I've used it on two of my dogs and it has been a God send. I'm now using JoinMax triple strength. You can get it in granules to sprinkle of food or chewables. If you only use it during the season then it runs no more than $50.00 per year. Here's where I get it:

I also get the chewable buffered asprin from this place for the really hard days. It's about $10.00 If you have any questions, let me know.

You can also put some glucosamine in your dogs food (the powder) or buy the pills....that will help the joints and such....NEVER GIVE A DOG TYLENOL OR ACTEMETOPHINE....that can kill them.

regular aspirine is fine.....

The vet put him on Anti-inflammatory twice a day and says if he does not get to walking better in a few days we will need to have x-rays. No hunting for him for the next two weeks. That is going to be tough on him when he sees us going to the field without him.

Have been using Cosequin for about three weeks and it seems to work, although my dog is probably in better shape now. I also use buffered aspirin- 2 per day. Dog: 7.75 yr old Golden Ret.

Moss our big male lab is getting better, the vet put him on Novox to ease the pain & he is walking better. The vet wants us to rest him for two weeks. Here is a picture of Moss, Cash my son's two dogs and us from a hunt last season.
