Dog nutrition/supplementing on heavy hunting days

Looking for information regarding dog energy/food/supplementing on heavy hunting days. My pup is in pretty good shape, but looking to provide additional calories for energy needs as needed. I generally feed a cup of food morning and evening, but what do others do during the day? Thanks

FWIW, the general recommendation is not to feed dogs the morning of a hunt but only after. Especially if they are going to be working hard. Bloat is a real issue. On my last hunt a friend whipped out a tube of gel that she gives her dogs when they start getting a bit tired. I've never used it but my dogs liked it so I picked up a tube to keep in my vest but normally I don't give my dogs anything but water during the day. I've always been told that they are hunting today on what they ate yesterday.

I would hate to think the calories that get burned on a hard day's hunt , let alone a few day trip. I'll give them whatever they'll eat at night and usually give them some leftovers or a burger or something too. My pointers are usually not big eaters so I figure even if they'll eat their dog food and some leftovers it's probably still a calorie negative day if they've ran a bunch that day. They usually never turn down a piece of sandwich or a meat stick midday either
