Dog got bit by Copperhead last night

I was sitting out at the fire pit lasting night an hour past sundown sipping a cold one when my dog starts barking like crazy. Only a snake gets this reaction. They go at it for a couple minutes and next thing there are snake parts flying everywhere.

This AM dog has swollen face but otherwise is OK. Note this is a farm dog, not hunting dog, that runs free day and night. Called the vet and decided to get her looked at. One steroid shot later plus some meds... my wallet is $100 lighter. Don't think I could live with myself if she would have taken a turn for the worse b/c I'm too cheap to take her to the vet.

Going scouting for some ducks later today with my #1 dog.....Hope we don't run into any Cottonmouths. They are mean sob's.

Revenge for snakes

You might laugh but I believe that you porblem can be controlled with some guinne hens. Noise and sometimes bothersome but snake (and man) can not stand them. They eat anything including small snakes.

I had guinea fowl several years ago. I liked them even though they made quite a racket. Good watch/guard birds. Unfortnately my dogs chased them off.

With a little avoidance training you should be keeping a few around the house. Lefty,
Where in Kansas are you usually hunting birds at?
I try to hunt the extreme western area.

I live in scott city and hunt almost everyday of the season. If you need places to hunt give me a heads up. I'll take you hunting or put you on a place to hunt.
