Back on task ... Here is a more thorough list, not all inclusive.

Many can be avoided with a little common sense, good training and I guess some luck. Others can be fixed by quick intervention and/or getting to a vet.

Remember the person responsible and looking out for your bird dog is you. Some are just part of being an athlete in a tough enviroment and you take them as they come.


Gone or Missing
+) Lost
+) Stolen

Injury or Severe Injury with Risk of Death
+) hit by vehicle
+) drinking water in pond with toxic blue-green algae
+) heat exhaustion
+) hypothermia
+) grassy Awns
+) fight with another hunting dog
+) bloated/twisted GI track by improper feed schedule
+) exposure to DeCon or Antifreeze in new area, camp, farm
+) improper vaccinations and exposure to disease
+) shot

+) drowning

Injury Requiring Intervention and Observation
+) porky quills
+) scratched cornea
+) barb wire cuts
+) other cuts
+) limping - sprains from hunting
+) sprains and broken bones from jumping out high vehicles
+) torn ACL
+) caught in leg hold trap
+) cuts to and around nose, ears, eyes
+) seeds (foxtail) inbedded into paws, throat, under eyelids
+) diarrhea
+) lyme disease
+) multitude of other tick borne disease

Nuisance
+) skunk
+) rolled in feces

Chronic and Genetic
+) joint degeneration
+) arthritis
+) hip dysplasia
+) hypoglycemia
