We use a pad conditioner before hunting, usually pad tougher from clean run or mushers conditioner. Seems to take care of most problems, also a lot of running the dogs. Have used Lewis boots in the past, they will handle cactus. A pain to put on , but vet wrap and duct tape do the job.
